Explore the Bay of Islands on Foot: Stunning Walks for All Levels
I love the Bay of Islands, it’s got heaps of walks, from quick 10-minute strolls to longer island loops. Most are on pest-free islands with gorgeous coastal views, you’ll just need to catch a ferry or water taxi from Paihia to get there.
Getting There: Fuller’s GreatSights runs ferries to Urupukapuka Island and Roberton Island. You can book a half-day ferry ticket to Otehei Bay which gives you heaps of time to do a few walks. Water taxis are another option if you want more flexibility.
When to Go: Autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November) are great for walking – the weather’s mild and pleasant. I went in February and it was perfect – warm but not too hot, and you can swim at the beaches.
