The Pines Beach walk is by far the easiest walk in Lake Tekapo, while still offering stunning views of the lake, mountains and the Church of the Good Shepherd.
This walk usually starts at the Church of the Good Shepherd, but it is worth it to start on the footbridge instead of parking on the eastern side of the main road. From the footbridge, you can see the colour of the ground up rock under the blue that Lake Tekapo is known for.
After crossing the footbridge, stop and go inside the Church of the Good Shepherd if you can. Otherwise, it is still a pretty sight from the outside. It is a small church that was built in 1935.
Make your way along the foreshore of Lake Tekapo and you will approach the forested area that leads to Pines Beach.
Though this walk is easy, it is not very popular so you will probably be able to enjoy the peace of the surroundings from the beach. This beach is commonly visited by those who also walk the Richmond Trail. For a shorter walk, start at Lilybank Rd and make your way through the trees to the beach.
Or you can continue along the Tekapo foreshore for a longer walk.
Enjoy the Tekapo hot pools after your walk
