The track divides in two, but, as it is a short walk, it is easy to do both sides of the track. Whichever side of the track you choose, you will be rewarded with views of the mountains and the lake.

On the right, the track will lead you downwards to the base of the lake. The descent is gradual and does not prove to be a difficult incline for your return. From the base of the lake, you will be able to see where the lake turns into the Tasman River. Even at such a distance from the glacier, you may find icebergs floating at the edge of the lake. No promises, however!

On the left, you will arrive at a viewpoint of the Tasman Glacier’s terminal lake. You will be able to see the moraine walls on the other side of the lake. These moraines are an indication of the height of the glacier. The moraine walls are slowly slipping into the lake. The track you are walking on is also made up of the old terminal moraines of the Tasman Glacier (as opposed to the lateral moraines along the side of the glacier.
