This short walk along the edge of the town of Timaru starts at the Piazza on the other side of the railway track.

From the Piazza, head south on Willow Walk and then back up onto the Memorial walkway towards the Caroling Bay Community Lodge.

During the first part of the walk, you can detour off the track to take advantage of the Trevor Griffith’s Rose Garden and Peony Garden.

Continuing along Memorial walkway, take the diagonal path on the right towards the Palliser Fountain. The fountain is on the corner of the lawn. In the summer, including the Christmas holidays, you will find a carnival on the lawn.

Follow the track towards the Community Lodge and around it. Continue on this road until the railway bridge. Take the cliff path to see Caroline Bay from the Benvenue Cliffs, or skip the Cliffs and make a left are the railway to continue along the track. Follow the track until you’ve returned to the Piazza.

You can find a full map of the track on the Timaru District Council website.

Along the track you will find a picnic area and an aviary. Thus, there is plenty to do to turn this short walk into a day of adventure.
