Wenderholm Regional Park is an easy drive just north of Auckland.

The park was established as a public park in 1965 with 134 hectors to walk around. This is just the beach walk at Wenderholm Park.

Walk Highlights

There is a small native forest walk, the Puhoi River is a good safe river for kayaking. Walk along the long sandy beach and sit under the Pohutukawa trees and look out over the Hauraki Golf.

Track Quality

You can walk around on the soft green grass or make for the beach. You can take a walk up to the top of the hill 156Mt for a better view of Wenderholm and Waiwera.

Driving Instructions

It is a 44 km or a 50 minutes drive to Wenderholm Regional Park Beach from Auckland city. Take the Northern Hwy to Whangarei and the Hibiscus Coast.There is a new to bypass Orewa, but I would take the turnoff into Orewa it is a better drive along the coastline then the Hwy. Once pasted Orewa you will drive up and over the hill to Waiwera. You then drive across the Waiwera river bridge. Now 400m ahead on the right is the turn off to Wenderholm Regional Park Beach.

Shops & Restaurants Nearby

There is a small kiosk in the picnic area. It is only open in the weekends and public holidays. Orewa has a very good shopping centre and cafés.

The 134 ha public park was established in 1965. The park has historical links dating back to the pre Europeans around the 1780 period.

Point 1: Wenderholm Regional Park

The park is well set out. You will have no problem finding a car park on the inlet side of the park. All you have to do now is walk through the picnic area and on to the ocean side of the park.You now have the choice of walking 500m down to the mouth of the Puhoi river or a steady climb to the top of Wenderholm hill for a great view of Waiwera or out to the Whangaparaoa Bay.
