Lovely loop track from Mansion House to the Coppermine lookout
You’ll need to either catch the ferry or arrive by your own boat at Mansion House Bay to start this walk. The ferry departs from Sandspit daily at 10:30am and returns from Mansion House at 2pm. Sandspit Wharf is located approximately 50 minutes drive north of Auckland, via Warkworth. You can book the ferry here and save up to 50% if you’re willing to go at a quieter time.
You can take a tour through Mansion House if it’s open, which it usually is when the ferry comes in. Follow the road and you’ll see the sign to Coppermine Lookout. It’s a good walk with excellent views along the way of the ocean and beaches. At the lookout, you can either walk around the beach to the Coppermine if the tide is low enough. Otherwise, you’ll have to take the longer track around. It’s much quicker at low tide.
The old brick stack is quite something and well worth seeing up close. Follow the track and you’ll do a loop back if you did the low tide option like I did.
Back at Mansion House Bay you’ll also see quite a good little cafe there.
