Drive or bike 9 km south from Hokitika, and at the car park walk into the walking track.

We really enjoyed walking through the dense rain forest with its tall native trees covered in green mosses and small plants. The ferns everywhere were awesome, a true West Coast bush. There was even bird song, especially from the super cute fantails fluttering in and out of the branches all around us.

From the car park…

The car park is not very big, it could fit around 5 or 6 cars tops I would think. Follow the walking track through awesome West Coast bush.

Walking through the bush

It was a nice easy track and really well kept. We didn’t see anyone else on our walk, not sure many people even know about this walk.

Arriving at the beach

As you exit the bush you’ll feel the soft white sand then view the expanse of the beach in front of you. If you love looking for driftwood there’s plenty to choose from. You could walk all the way back to Hokitika on the beach if you wanted to.  As you can see from our photos, not a single person around, we had the whole beach to ourselves.
