Beach Haven Walks

Good bush without driving far. Shepherds Park is quiet, Eskdale Reserve has a decent walk through the trees, and the beach is right there when you're done.

Devonport Walks

Two volcanoes, harbour and city views, Victorian villas, and good cafes to finish. My home base and I've walked every corner of it.

Greenhithe Walks

Easy to overlook but worth knowing about. The Greenhithe Esplanade Reserve runs along the Upper Waitemata Harbour, peaceful on a weekday.

Northcote Walks

More going on than people expect. Tuff Crater is the highlight, a proper volcanic crater with a good track around it. Onepoto Domain and Northcote Point are worth a look too.

Rosedale Walks

Rosedale Park is a good option in the upper North Shore if you want a straightforward green space walk. Nothing too challenging, good for families.

Shakespear Regional Park

One of the best regional parks in Auckland and it doesn't get the attention it deserves. Right at the tip of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, several tracks, fantastic coastal views.

Takapuna Walks

Takapuna Beach is a great starting point for a longer coastal walk. Head south through the rock pools to Milford, or all the way to Devonport if you've got the legs for it.

Whangaparaoa Walks

A solid set of walks along the peninsula, including the Gulf Harbour Coast to Coast, the Whangaparaoa Path, and Fisherman's Rock at Army Bay. Mostly easy going.

Devonport to Takapuna Green Route

6km coastal walk connecting two of the North Shore's best suburbs, mostly flat and easy the whole way

Mt Victoria, Devonport

Short climb to the top of an extinct volcano with 360-degree views over the harbour and city

North Head and Devonport Walk

Combines the two Devonport volcanoes with historic tunnels and great Hauraki Gulf views

Devonport Heads Walk

Quieter coastal loop taking in the headland beyond North Head, less visited than the main volcano tracks

Devonport Ngataringa Loop

Pleasant loop through Ngataringa Bay, good for a shorter outing from the village

Devonport Narrowneck Loop

Easy beach and reserve loop at Narrow Neck, good for families and a swim afterwards

Lake Pupuke Loop

Easy 3km circuit around a volcanic crater lake right in Takapuna, flat and good for all ages

Takapuna to Milford Coastal Walk

Coastal walk north from Takapuna Beach through the rock pools to Milford, great at low tide

Takapuna Explorer

A broader loop taking in Takapuna's beaches, reserves, and the lake in one go

Mairangi Bay Loops

Easy walks around the Mairangi Bay coastal area with good beach access throughout

Tuff Crater Path

Walk around a genuine volcanic crater in the middle of the suburbs, about 2km and very easy, great views over the Waitemata

Northcote Point Harbour Bridge Walk

Short walk to Northcote Point with close-up views of the Harbour Bridge from below

Bayview Bush Walk

Good bush walk through Bayview Reserve, a solid option when you want trees without leaving the Shore

Eskdale and Highbury Reserves

Connected bush reserves in the Bayview area, good for a longer wander through native regeneration

Bayview Giant Kauri Walk

Short walk to one of the North Shore's remaining large kauri trees, worth the detour

Shakespear Regional Park Walk

The main loop at Shakespear, coastal clifftops and a great beach at the end, one of the best regional park walks in Auckland

Lookout Track, Shakespear

Shorter option at Shakespear for the views without committing to the full loop

Heritage Trail, Shakespear

Follows the park's history through farmland and bush, good for understanding what the peninsula used to look like
