I used to live in Devonport so I know this area well, and I've spent years walking the tracks across the North Shore. You've got volcanoes, beaches, bush, and great views back to the city and out across the Hauraki Gulf, all within easy reach.
Because there are heaps of walks spread across the North Shore, I've grouped them by area below to make it easier to find what you're after. I have over 150 walks in Auckland covered on the site if you want to explore further afield.

Beach Haven Walks
Good bush without driving far. Shepherds Park is quiet, Eskdale Reserve has a decent walk through the trees, and the beach is right there when you're done.
Find walks →Devonport Walks
Two volcanoes, harbour and city views, Victorian villas, and good cafes to finish. My home base and I've walked every corner of it.
Find walks →Greenhithe Walks
Easy to overlook but worth knowing about. The Greenhithe Esplanade Reserve runs along the Upper Waitemata Harbour, peaceful on a weekday.
Find walks →Northcote Walks
More going on than people expect. Tuff Crater is the highlight, a proper volcanic crater with a good track around it. Onepoto Domain and Northcote Point are worth a look too.
Find walks →Rosedale Walks
Rosedale Park is a good option in the upper North Shore if you want a straightforward green space walk. Nothing too challenging, good for families.
Find walks →Shakespear Regional Park
One of the best regional parks in Auckland and it doesn't get the attention it deserves. Right at the tip of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, several tracks, fantastic coastal views.
Find walks →Takapuna Walks
Takapuna Beach is a great starting point for a longer coastal walk. Head south through the rock pools to Milford, or all the way to Devonport if you've got the legs for it.
Find walks →Whangaparaoa Walks
A solid set of walks along the peninsula, including the Gulf Harbour Coast to Coast, the Whangaparaoa Path, and Fisherman's Rock at Army Bay. Mostly easy going.
Find walks →Best North Shore walks
A mix of easy coastal walks, volcanic summits, and bush tracks spread across the Shore.
