One of my favorite walks in Auckland is North Head and Devonport. There are many things to do and see in Devonport Village and the views from North Head are magnificent.
Today was clear and sunny, which called for a walk and climb to look over Auckland from up high from Mount Victoria in Devonport
I felt like a tourist in my home city this morning! The morning was stunning and I was really looking forward to exploring Northcote Point.
Today’s walk around Lake Pupuke in Takapuna was a discovery one.
This Belmont Bay walk on Auckland’s North Shore, was chosen by my friend after she read an inspiring article about the founder of the Belmont cafe “Little & Friday“.
Our walk around Takapuna on Auckland’s North Shore was in warm winter sunshine.
Many walkers on Auckland’s North Shore will be familiar with this route.
Winter is perhaps not the best time to do this bush walk starting at the Chelsea Estate Heritage Park – the track was very muddy and slippery – but we survived, and it was fun!
Saying that you are going for a walk in the bush in urban Auckland, may sound like an oxymoron, however, that is one of the many wonderful aspects of walking in Auckland – you never have to go far to find native bush.
Today we set out to explore the Bayview area near Glenfield on Auckland’s North Shore. What a wonderful surprise to find a beautiful bush walk, alongside the Upper Harbour reaches, all part of the Glenfield Coastal Walkway.
We returned to Bayview on the North Shore to complete a circular walk in a different direction to our previous Bayview Coast and Bush Walk.

The dark grey sky and strong winds did not bode well for our walk from Narrow Neck Beach (north of Devonport) to Ngaratinga Bay – a mini coast to coast loop.
The Totaravale Reserves loop walk loosely follows a route documented by Margaret Scrymgeour from her booklet “Explore the Shore”.
This loop bush walk from Birkenhead War Memorial Park, through the reserves of Ridgewood, Eskdale and Birkenhead Domain was slightly challenging as the map that we had obtained did not fit the directions.
The clifftop and beach loop walks starting at Campbells Bay and taking in Mairangi Bay, and Murrays Bay and part of Rothesay Bay on Auckland’s North Shore provide stunning views over the Hauraki Gulf and Islands.
The Meadowood Reserves loop walk follows a route documented by Margaret Scrymgeour from her booklet “Explore the Shore”.

The Beach Haven coastal walk on Auckland’s North Shore hugs to the coastline with views to Bayview, Hobsonville Point and the bush that runs alongside the Upper Harbour Highway.
Centennial Park (inland from Campbells Bay on Auckland’s North Shore) is a very large reserve that contains a regenerating native forest.
The Unsworth Heights to Rosedale Park walkway is a spectacular ‘there & back’ walk with many activities and options for variety to make it a loop.
1.8 km • 30 minutes • Easy walk down the long sandy beach and enjoy the great coastal views.
8 km • 1.5 hours • Easy • Ōrewa Estuary Path is a great loop walk on an excellent wide concrete track made for walkers and bikers. When the tide is in you’ll enjoy lovely views around the whole track.
5 km • 1.5 hours • Easy. This walk takes you along the rim of the Tuff Crater, a great short walk in Auckland.
8 km • 2 hours • Easy. According to my GPS, the Devonport to Takapuna Green Route walk is 8km and will take you around 2 hours, allowing for photo taking. © Freewalks.nz
